TekTip: NC351 Series CE Placement
The placement of the central equipment device within a facility is a very important decision. Since all master stations and patient stations connect to it, the location of the central equipment defines the cable length to these devices.
It is necessary to review the facility layout as a whole and determine where the central equipment should be located. Allowing the device to be placed in a remote section of a facility can create additional run length and often contributes to excessive cable distances and related problems. See these two simplified examples for reference:

In the first example, the central equipment has been placed on one end of the facility and the respective run lengths exceed the maximum 1000' distance requirement.
In the second example, the central equipment has been placed in a more strategic position, which creates acceptable run lengths that do not exceed the 1000' distance.
A final note, room drop lengths contribute to the total cable length. Consider this additional "hidden" cable distance in your total calculations.
