TekTip: Troubleshooting with NC306
When using an NC304 series master station and a VGA monitor, the user has a great deal of feedback from the system via the monitor. However, when using the NC306 master station, this convenience is not available.
A means to obtaining more information is to connect a computer or laptop running MS Windows® HyperTerminal directly to the central equipment's central event printing port, and connect the NC306 master directly to the central equipment. With this setup, specifics on fault conditions and system activity are displayed on the computer screen in real time, making initial setup and troubleshooting easier.
The central equipment event printing is always active and is located on the PM353 card, bottom port. (For location, refer to the NC304/NC306 Block wiring diagramdrawing # IL715 Block Wiring 3 Rev1 121002 1in the IL715 manual.) A null modem cable (TekTone® part number CA365) is required for connection, and should be plugged into the event printing port and the relevant COM port on the laptop.
Configure HyperTerminal as follows:
- Bits Per Second: 9600
- Data Bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop Bits: 1
- Flow Control: None
