TekTip: Important Tek-MICRO®II Menu Functions

Just like the Tek-MICRO® system before it, there are some important, basic Tek-MICRO®II commands that all installation personnel should be familiar with. While the manual should always be kept handy for reference, here are some commands that installers will find most useful:

Reboot Entire System (press Menu, then 3 and then 5):
This function simply reboots the central equipment and all associated master stations. This is useful for getting a clean start after troubleshooting efforts.
Detect System Stations (press Menu, then 3 and then 7):
This function tells the central equipment to search for newly connected patient stations (or similar devices) and adds them to the station database. This is also useful for eliminating comm. faults that are displaying for intentionally removed stations (comm. faults for stations that are intended to be operational should be troubleshot further). NOTE: This does not clear any programmed information (such as patient room stations).
Restore System Defaults (press Menu, then 3 and then 8):
This function will remind users and installers of the original Tek-MICRO® "Reinitialize Entire System." This function removes all programmed information and searches for new equipment. Do not perform this command unless you intend to erase everything. I highly recommend that this be done when the initial power up of the system is performed (after verification that there are no outstanding installation problems that need to be corrected). It provides a "clean slate" for further work.

As a final item, here is an off-the-subject tip. Some installers may have already noticed that the primary master station has two asterisks in the upper left hand corner of the monitor, but sometimes only one appears initially. This happens when the system has sent out a master map, but has not yet determined which master is the primary master (typically the lowest address master connected at the time). To speed up the process, press the reset button or lift the handset to actuate the hookswitch. This method will also revert the master to the membrane switch if it has been left in the keyboard mode.
