TekTip: NC300 II System Programming Information File, station.db
The NC300 II (Tek-MICRO®II) now incorporates a very powerful feature, a bi-directional serial port on each master station. The port allows for the upgrade of the various system software components, as well as access to the system programming information. The IL715 manual contains procedures for upgrading the software and downloading the system programming information via a laptop computer. In the case of the system programming information, we are interested in the station.db file.
Technicians can download this file and store it on a laptop computer so that they can restore (and backup) the system programming information after setting a system to default status for troubleshooting purposes. Once done, the file can be restored to one of the master stations, and then the technician can activate the 3 Transmit Database menu command, located on the Reconfiguration Menu.
Another way of achieving this effect on a multi-master system, especially if a laptop computer is not handy, is to simply disconnect one of the master stations (that is not suspect and is not part of the troubleshooting process). Technicians can then set the system to default conditions and troubleshoot the specific problem. Once done, the technician can then reconnect the master station and perform the menu commands as described above to restore the system programming.
